With the whole idiom of the modern streetster in the shape of the Ducati Monster having been conceived by Miguel Galuzzi at the Cagiva research centre under the guidance of Massimo Tamburini, it's no surprise that the second model in the reborn MV line-up would be a four cylinder version of the same naked bike concept.
Enter the Brutale which, while sharing the same fundamental chassis as the F4 boasts a shorter wheelbase, taking the inherent manoeuvrability of the streetster to a new level, its semi motard stance and forward biased riding position maximising weight over the front wheel effectively compensating for the absence of bodywork. This gives the Brutale very good urban control allied to super quick steering whilst at the same time losing none of the front wheel security that made the Ducati Monster such a successful bike. Top spec Marzocchi and Sachs suspension complete the chassis package in conjunction with Nissin 6-pot callipers for instant braking response.
But if the handling is on a new level, the performance of the re-timed and re-geared F4 motor is from a different planet to the original Ducati. The 140bhp plus of the 910 motor is in excess of most sports bikes of the same capacity and provides seamless acceleration from even lower down than the 90cc bigger F4 courtesy of the lower gearing, perfect for town and mixed urban and middle distance riding. And if the mood takes you and you've got the strength to hang on, the Brutale S will catapult you to 150mph, 20mph in excess of its nearest competitor.
